Which action would YOU most like to see the government take to try to impact fuel prices?
Lower/suspend the federal tax on fuel
Set a price ceiling to oil companies
Tap government oil reserves
Let the market handle it
Give subsidies to users - like a "tax rebate"
Reinstate rationing (like in the mid-1970s)
Lift oil drilling r

Stop Oil Speculation in the markets by requiring all contracts to be backed with cash and they have to have the underlying commodity.

.
The US has more oil reserves than Saudi Arabia, but we buy oil from them.

Everybody who thinks that makes sense, raise your hand.

I see Obama has his up. Anybody else?

I don't want the Government to waste our tax dollars by getting more involved than they already are! They have 'Muck'd Up" the country enough without doing any more to our fuel costs!

WE NEED LESS GOVERNMENT AND MORE COMMON SENSE!!!!

One,the Transportation industry should be excempt from these outlandish fuel prices;because they are the heartbeat of our economy. If the trucks, trains, planes, would stop moving for a week; our prices for everything would skyrocket to not being able to afford the basic commodities of life. Our world as we know it would be paralyzed economically.

Quit the "proactive pro-quo" and actually be proactive with
policies that seal and terminate energy dependancy with a fiscally sound (??) independent agenda.

Drill and develop the big reserves we have in the U.S. and don't let the middle east force us to take our eye of the ball like they did the last time we tried to develope our own sources. They immediately lowered crude prices so it was unprofitable to drill here. We need to develop our own reserves and get off the dependency of foreign oil. We should also develop alternative sources at the same time. It will take longer to develop alternatives than develop our own oil reserves. We should not be fooled by someone saying it will take to long to develop the reserves we have we really need to do both to gain our independence.

Lift oil drilling. More nuclear power plants, hydrogen power cars, less wind turbines as they mess the landscape up. Take ethanal out of the gas blends.

Even when the prices are running high, there's not much it can do to affect prices in a large and/or long term way. Leave the market to itself. Investigate where possible any attempts at market manipulation by traders and corporations.

Let the market handle it.

1) We need to decrease our consumption;
2) We won't decrease consumption if gas prices are 'tolerable'
3) There is no 'quick fix'
4) We must make long term plans that meet our long term goals
5) One of our long term goals has to be reduction of green house gases (which are greatly increased thru gas consumption)
6) More drilling means more future gas consumption means more green house gases means we're not meeting our long term goals
7) Therefore, more drilling is not a viable alternative

There isn't much the government can do that would immediately impact prices. Since prices are currently declining and demand is lower, let's see how far prices will slide this summer into autumn.
