Never Say Die - Keystone XL Pipeline to Enter U.S. Presidential Election

Oilprice.com -- Like Lazarus arising from the grave, or a vampire pulling a stake out of his chest, the controversial Keystone LX pipeline, designed to transport Alberta’s crude oil sands output to American Gulf of Mexico, is apparently to become a component in the November U.S. presidential elections.

Increasingly evident Republican nominee Mitt Romney declared on 20 April during a speech to the Republican National Committee’s State Chairmen’s National Meeting in Arizona, “I will build that pipeline if I have to myself.” Slyly portraying Obama as a renewable green energy tree-hugger opposed to traditional sources of energy Romney added, “He likes all of the energy sources that come from above the ground. So anything below the ground he doesn’t like: Coal, oil, gas. We all like wind and solar.

It is slightly funny that Keystone does not address Canada FULLY using its energy capabilities at home.

They still are importing oil for refineries in the eastern provinces.....

Once again, profits before patriotism... seems like Canada is picking up some very bad habits from the United States....

@N5EXY

You're right, it shouldn't be political, which is why it never should have been part of that bill that forced the administration to give a yes/no answer within whatever it was, 60 days? The Republicans made it political.

TIGERPAW46 - "Remember the pipeline was also to have a line going into the East coast & pick up oil from the Western USA not just to push Canadian oil to the Gulf for export. Oh that's right the opposistion didn't tell people that did they. They also left out the fact their were 12 different routes offerred, half of which didn't even go near the controversal eviromental area they were concerned about & the other 6 had different distances or length near the sensitive areas."

Where do you get this stuff? There's no line going to the East Coast. That would be great if it did, because they're shutting down refineries on the East coast, because almost all the oil they process is imported. This pipeline is taking Canadian crude to the Gulf coast, so the refineries there can refine it and sell the refined products to other countries. They're already producing more than they can sell on the domestic market.

The only reason the State Department is involved is because the pipeline crosses the US/Canadian border. If the pipeline just moved oil from the West to the East, it would be being built now.

And most of the opposition to the original route has come from the State of Nebraska.

Bless the Rebuplicans for sticking with it.

If you still need a reason to defeat Obama in 2012 consider his administration’s intense effort to deprive America of the energy it needs to function and compete in the world.
If a foreign nation had launched an attack on America to destroy its coal-fired plants, to shut down its coal mines, and to thwart its ability to drill for oil and natural gas, we would be at war with it.
Obama is at war with America.

195 or so days until the ejection.

We could buy oil from our friends to the north for less than we pay those that spawn terrorism. Shipping costs would be saved. American people would be put to work. This a no-brainer. I don't blame Canada one bit for dumping their oil on global market. And, for those that think the president can't bring relief at the gas pump, here's a little history lesson. In July '08, when oil was in the $140 region, Bush made an announcement that he was going to relax the moratorium on off shore drilling and, the global crude price dropped $9 before his speech was finished. Another thing; B. Hussein Obama isn't stupid. He damn well knows all this.

It seems like the president should be the #1 cheerleader for the way we do things in the United States and be willing to do anything to help our economy.

However, this guy is doing everything he can to destroy our way of life.

The pipeline is just one small example.

Another four years for O'bama??? I don't think so - three and one half years so far is more than enough to see what he thinks of our country. We don't need someone up there to push some socialist agenda at the expense of the citizens of this country. We need someone who can begin to restore some sort of sanity to the way we decide what gets done and how it gets done.

Please, people...no more O'bama - send him back to Chicago where he belongs.
